Earth Day Delights

Earth Day is a special reminder for us to encourage your child’s understanding and appreciation of the Earth’s environment. It is also a great time to learn about our planet and how to take care of it. Visit a Plant Nursery or local Garden Centre to purchase seeds (radishes, sunflowers) that sprout quickly. Always ensure that the plants are child-friendly.

Do you know recycling is one of the most environmentally friendly things you can do? Other reusing tips are:

  • Decorate a bag and use it as a gift bag instead of buying wrapping paper.
  • Store your good leftovers into a clean food container.
  • Turn a used box into a storage box.
  • Save bubble wrap and various boxes and use them when you need to send or give a present.
  • Decorate an old but clean can and place your pens and pencils in it.

Are Your Children Safe?

Category: Children's TravelBrenda McCartney @ 2:36 pm

boy security dalesydoo Are Your Children Safe?

Charles Shubin, M.D. states that at the ages of 4 and 5 children’s social skills and independence blossom, which makes it the appropriate time to talk to them about safety.  For a child’s safety, you must establish specific rules:

  1. Choose your words and tone carefully (so they would not be scared  or misinterpret the conversation)
  1. Ensure your explanation is not a threat
  1. Keep on talking to children about their security

Possible Instructions

Instead of: Do not talk to Strangers

Say:                  Ensure you that you speak with your Mom and Dad before talking to another grown up.

Instead of: If you get lost in a store, asked an adult to help you find me

Say:                  If we are in a store and you can not find me, do not go outside, stay in the store and ask someone with a name tag to help you.

Instead of: Do not leave my sight

Say:                  Do not walk away from your mom and dad, so they cannot see you

Instead of: Do not keep Secrets

Say:                  Do not listen to anyone who asks you to keep a secret. Always tell your Mom and Dad what secrets you have.

Instead of: Do not talk candy from anyone

Say:                  Do not take anything from anyone except your parents or those your Mom and Dad say it is okay to.

Do you wish to keep your living room toy free and allow the children to spend quality time in their bedroom?

  1. Get Baskets, bins, bright colored box or old back packs and filled them with different articles e.g. books, blocks, legos, stuff toys, trucks, dolls etc.
  2. Get rid of toys that are no longer age appropriate or that has not been used in awhile
  3. Divide their room into segments so each activity can be allotted in a different space
  4. Get rid of broken  toys  or  furniture or any item that is missing an important part immediately

Do you Know

  • Bins make it easier for children to clean up after themselves
  • Create  a clean up song so they can put everything in its place willy-nilly
  • Creating a calming color scheme (maximum 2 colors)  based on the color of the kids toys will create a clean atmosphere
  • Painting or decorate all the bigger pieces in the room the same color and smaller pieces the same color would allow the furniture to recede and toys become the focal point
  • A child’s play room that is designed not only for storing toys but create space for playing can create a whole new exciting experience.
  • Duvet covers, curtain or sheets bags are ideal for extra storage.
